As part of the day-long Jazz Fest 2020 Community Day: A Celebration of Dance and The Music of Louis and Gia Prima, join male repertory company 10 Hairy Legs and the Ocean County College Dancers for a performance that celebrates through dance the music of Louis Prima and Gia Maione Prima.

Dames on the Town:
The Ocean County College Dancers will present “Dames on the Town,” a new work choreographed by Catherine Mancuso. This piece draws on the fun and playful music of the Louis Prima and follows several dames out on the town looking for excitement. The goal is have the audience feel exported to the streets of Brooklyn in the 1940’s where playful teenagers take to the street to dance the night away.
Catherine Mancuso is the Program Chair of Dance at Ocean County College and the founder of Aries in Flight, a theater dance company. She has presented work at WaxWorks, Ailey Studios, Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, American University, New York University, Monmouth University, and The Grunin Theater. Her work has been reviewed on BroadwayWorld.com and she was featured in the Winter Spring 2018 edition of Ocean Views. She has previously taught at the 92nd Street Y, Broadway Bodies, US Performing Arts Camps, Monmouth University, and Little Red Elisabeth Irwin’s Summer Musical Theatre Workshop program.
A Sunday Kind of Love
10 Hairy Legs will present ” A Sunday Kind of Love,” a new piece choreographed by Robert Mark Burke. “For my new dance on 10 Hairy Legs, I am exploring the music of Louis Prima to create a tour de force quintet. Currently in process, the new dance, entitled “A Sunday Kind of Love”, is a suite of shorter dances that explore the unique rhythmical complexities of each score, including “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “Buona Sera”. Interested in the aesthetics of the era in which Prima created his music, I am creating a world through which the dancers find a sense of refined wildness.”
Robert Mark Burke is a New York City- based performer, creator and teaching artist. As a performer, he has danced for Lucinda Childs Dance, Meagan Woods, Stephen Agisilaou, and Bryn Cohn + Artists. He currently dances for Megan Williams Dance Projects and 10 Hairy Legs. In 2015, he launched Robert Mark Dance as a way to continue his creative practice. His work has been seen across the United States including The Paramount Theater (Boston), New Jersey Performing Arts Center (Newark), Dixon Place, Rutgers University (New Brunswick) and The Wild Project. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NJPAC Emerging Choreographer Fellowship and the Dance on the Lawn Emerging Choreographer Award, under the direction of Charmaine Warren. In 2019, he was commissioned by Eryc Taylor Dance as part of the company’s EARTH series and in June 2020, will premiere a new commission on 10 Hairy Legs at New York Live Arts.

10 Hairy Legs, a male repertory company, provides a lens to experience the broad spectrum of dance. Widely acclaimed for its aggressive commissioning of new works and curation of master works, we have served more than 85,000 patrons, students, artists and educators since our founding in 2012, toured nationally to 20 states appearing at notable venues such as The Kravis Center (FL), Dance Place (DC), Tulsa PAC (OK), The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, The Carlsen Center (KS), as Cameo Artists for The Public Theater’s Public Works production of Hercules at The Delacorte Theatre, choreographed by Chase Brock, and internationally in the Cayman Islands and South Africa.
13 World Premiere Commissions from: Adam Barruch, Julie Bour, Al Blackstone, Doug Elkins, Larry Keigwin, Raja Feather Kelly, Tiffany Mills, Nicholas Sciscione, Doug Varone, Manuel Vignoulle, Megan Williams and Yin Yue. Commissioned Works to debut in June 2020 from: Joshua Beamish, Robert Mark Burke and David Parker. Curated works in our repertory are by: Sean Curran, David Dorfman and Dan Froot, Heidi Latsky, Cleo Mack, David Parker, Stephen Petronio, Claire Porter, Niv Shenfeld and Oren Laor, Christopher Williams.
Broadcasts have included NJTV’s State of the Arts, The Meredith Vieira Show and Nick Cannon’s Red Nose Dancathon. Dance Education is an important part of our mission and we provide a wide range of programs for all ages exemplifying the many facets of maleness expressed through dance to more than 2,200 students and educators each year.
