About the Show
What if you discovered an old apartment covered with forty layers of wallpaper? What if these layers could be peeled back to reveal the stories of past tenants? Layer the Walls explores stories of a tenement apartment in New York City that was once home to hundreds of new immigrants. Shadow and Bunraku puppetry, along with masks bring to life the stories of Irish, Italian and Jewish families. These compelling stories have shaped the America we know today.
This is the daytime school performance. Layer the Walls will also have a performance at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 open to the public.
This engagement of Layer the Walls is made possible through the ArtsCONNECT program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
This program is paid for in part by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders in conjunction with funds from the NJ State Council on the Arts and the NJ Historical Commission through the Ocean County Culture & Heritage Commission, Freeholder Virginia E. Haines, chairwoman.
