About Velocity

Velocity is the next generation in Irish tap. Honoring past traditions but blasting them feet first into the 21st century, Velocity breaks away from the idea of what an Irish dance show is to one that is expressive, free, fast-paced and edgy, driven by passion and pride!

Led by Guinness World Record holder for The Fastest Feet in the World, James Devine, and five-time World Champion Irish dancer, David Geaney. Joined on stage by a motley crew of mind-blowing musicians and an old-school scratch DJ, it’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before!

Two illustrious Irish hoofers come together in an intimate, no-nonsense jam session of impossible scuffles, shuffles, and every time step in between – Velocity is a high-octane celebration of the past, present, and future of Irish dance!

Described by The New York Times as an “energetic intimate history lesson more than a sequined spectacular”, Velocity is “a multimedia show for all ages, earnestly tracing the evolution of Irish dance while toying with tradition”.

“A jam session in which risky demands of speed are met with precision feats of footwork sometimes doubled in side-by-side unison!” – The New Yorker

“Staggering precision and speed” – The List

“A wonderful, fast-paced and utterly joyful display of Irish dancing.” – The Scotsman

About David Geaney

Dingle native, David Geaney, a 5 X World Champion Dancer, is taking the world by storm.
After an illustrious competitive career, amassing numerous major titles including All Ireland, European, All Scotland and Great Britain Championships alongside his five world titles, he has now set his sights on choreographing and performing to audiences worldwide.

David GeaneyIn 2011, David took part in and won TG4’s An Jig Gig. In 2012, he went on to win Kerry’s Got Talent, pitting his talents against dancers, singers, and musicians alike.

David joined his first show at a mere 18 years of age, and has been the lead dancer in numerous productions in his short career so far, performing at the World Surfing Championships in France and all across the USA with world-renowned Joanie Madden and Cherish the Ladies, to name just a few.

David was awarded the 2014 Man of the Year by the Irish Dancing Magazine and has amassed over 5 million views online for various performances. He is most famed for being The Dingle Dancer, performing to the masses of tourists nightly in his family’s famous pub, The Dingle Pub!

Recent highlights include appearing on RTE’s “The Late Late Show” performing as a solo artist, performing alongside his band in the 3Arena, reaching the live semi-finals of the world’s biggest talent show Britain’s Got Talent and graduating with an honours degree in Maths and Economics from the University of Limerick.

Arguably his greatest achievement was fulfilling his lifelong dream of seeing his name in lights in Times Square, New York – when he starred in Velocity’s run at The New Victory Theater in 2018. His sights are now set on further goals with Velocity and a worldwide tour!

About James Devine

“The sheer rhythmic invention of Devine’s industrious feet set him well above the fray, and that includes Riverdance phenom Michael Flatley, who he left in the dust long ago.” – The Boston Globe

James DevineJames Devine, hailed by the Globe and Mail as “a master of his craft,” is a multi-talented leader in the percussive dance world. Not only is he a 3x World Champion Dancer, but he is also the world record holder for “The Fastest Feet in the World” with an astonishing 38 taps in one second.

Possessing a fast and vigorous percussive dance style, his signature tap has been likened to “…manic typewriters…,” “…talking drums…” and “…tap tornado.” Roslyn Sulcas, The New York Times critic has called him “…a delight halfway between Fred Astaire elegance and Savion Glover hunkered-down brilliance.”

From a young age, Devine has wowed audiences around the world with his masterful dancing and choreography. He has starred in popular Irish dance shows Lord of the Dance and GaelForce. He has guest performed with the renowned Cherish The Ladies and The Chieftains on their world tours. He has also appeared on major television shows worldwide including Live with Regis and Kelly in NYC, the Royal Variety Show, London, MTV Italia, Milan, as well as performing live at the Oscar ceremony of the 69th Annual Academy Awards.

As a choreographer, Devine’s work has helped redefine Irish dance as an art form in the modern dance world. In 2007 his starring role in the award-winning multimedia dance production TAPEIRE led to successive box-office breaking seasons, and 5-star rave reviews for his choreography at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the New Victory Theatre on Broadway.

Fast forward 11 years later and Devine is now focused on producing and taking Irish dance in a new and exciting direction with a brand-new take on Irish dance – Velocity.

Recently he won Best Corporate Entertainer at the Event Industry Awards in Dublin, Ireland.

When he is not dancing, he is a dedicated strength and conditioning coach to Irish dancers.
