Webb’s orchestra also served as the musical foundation for many legendary sidemen\, many of whom Ella would go on to work with for decades. She relishes diving into history by sharing the stories\, songs and people that make up the treasure trove of pre-1950’s American Popular Music. A knowledgeable educator\, she teaches jazz history classes for OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at UNLV and has presented workshops for the SFJAZZ Discover Jazz series. Amanda is the proud parent of a Gen Z child who could survive without his cell phone. \nLearn more about Amanda and her upcoming performances by visiting www.amandaking.com. \n  \nShare This:

SUMMARY:One Night In Memphis
DESCRIPTION:  \nBuy Tickets \nMain Stage\nOrchestra $49\, Mezzanine $44\ninclusive of ticket fee \n \nAbout One Night in Memphis\nOne Night in Memphis is a rocking concert tribute to legendary Sun Records recording artists Carl Perkins\, Johnny Cash\, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. Over 90 minutes of rockabilly\, country\, gospel\, and pure 1950s rock and roll music performed live and backed by an authentic and energetic rockabilly backup band. Created and directed by John Mueller from the highly acclaimed show\, “Winter Dance Party\,” this show has met with the same accolades\, sell-out shows\, and audience standing ovations. \nBe a witness to a rock and roll royalty jam session with the music and talent that has stood the test of time. Enjoy true American music featuring the hits “Blue Suede Shoes\,” “Folsom Prison Blues\,” “Great Balls of Fire\,” “Whole lotta Shaking Going On\,” “Shake\, Rattle and Roll\,” “Don’t Be Cruel\,” “Hound Dog\,” and many\, many more with acclaimed national talent\, all performed live without tracks and guaranteed to get any audience rocking and rolling! \n \nHistory\nOn December 4th\, 1956\, music history was made. This date found Carl Perkins\, Johnny Cash\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, and Elvis Presley together at Sun Record’s studio in Memphis\, TN. A jam session ensued\, which seemed to have happened by chance. Perkins\, who by this time had already met success with “Blue Suede Shoes”\, had come into the studio that day\, accompanied by his brothers Clayton and Jay and by drummer W.S. Holland\, to cut some new material\, including a revamped version of an old blues song\, “Matchbox”. Sam Phillips\, the owner of Sun Records\, who wished to try to fatten this sparse rockabilly instrumentation\, had brought in his latest acquisition\, singer\, and piano man extraordinaire Jerry Lee Lewis\, still unknown outside Memphis\, to play piano on the Perkins session. \nSometime in the early afternoon\, Elvis Presley\, a former Sun artist himself but now at RCA\, dropped in to pay a casual visit. At the time\, he was the biggest name in show business\, having hit the top of the singles charts five times and topped the album charts twice in the preceding 12-month period. Less than four months earlier\, he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show\, pulling an unheard-of 83% of the television audience\, estimated at 55 million\, the largest in history up to that time. \nAfter chatting with Philips in the control room\, Presley listened to the playback of Perkins’ session\, which he pronounced to be good. Then he went out into the studio\, and the jam session began sometime later. Sun artist Johnny Cash\, who had recently enjoyed a few hits on the country charts\, popped in at some point during the session. Cowboy Jack Clement was engineering that day and remembers saying to himself\, “I think I’d be remiss not to record this\,” So he did\, and the night became rock and roll music history. Many famous artists\, such as Bob Dylan\, recall listening to and being tremendously inspired by these recordings. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Tracy Nelson featuring Steve Conn
DESCRIPTION:  \nBuy Tickets \nGia Maione Prima Foundation Studio Theatre\nTickets $24\ninclusive of ticket fee \n \nAbout the show\nFor this intimate acoustic performance\, Tracy Nelson will be accompanied by Steve Conn\, one of the two pianists on the recent Grammy-nominated album “Life Don’t Miss Nobody.” Conn will also bring his small accordion to accompany Tracy when she switches to a 12-string acoustic guitar. \nAbout Tracy Nelson\nTracy Nelson\, one of the most powerful voices in American music\, has emerged from a lengthy recording hiatus with the album of a lifetime\, a musical self-portrait spanning her entire career. Life Don’t Miss Nobody  (BMG; release date June 9th) is a 13 track collection that stretches back to her start as a guitar-picking Wisconsin teen playing coffeehouses through an unparalleled career\, now in it’s sixth decade\, singing blues\, country\, New Orleans R&B and gospel\, and performing in such storied music meccas as 1960s San Francisco and 1970s Austin in her epic\, genre-busting musical journey. \nBut this is no nostalgia trip. The title song is a brand-new composition from the woman whose “Down So Low” has become a modern standard. She’s kept busy performing and recording with long-time musical friends in projects like Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues and with the freewheeling all-star Blues Broads – Angela Strehli\, Annie Sampson and Dorothy Morrison. Even so\, roots lovers have waited a long time for a new Tracy Nelson album\, and no one’s more excited than Tracy. \n \n“I haven’t made a record in over 10 years\,” she says. “I’ve been wanting to do every one of these songs for a really long time. I wanted to get a little bit of everything\, all the kinds of music that I love.” \nLife Don’t Miss Nobody is Tracy Nelson’s own Great American Songbook\, featuring iconic composers like Hank Williams\, Ma Rainey\, Willie Dixon\, Allen Toussaint\, Chuck Berry\, Doc Pomus\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the Founding Father of  American Song\, Stephen Foster. Foster’s “Hard Times” in here in two settings\, both featuring Tracy on 12 string\, the first time she’s recorded on guitar since her 1964 debut\, Deep Are The Roots. \nTracy’s labor of love includes the album’s personnel. Produced by Roger Alan Nichols (Steven Tyler\, Larkin Poe) and tracked at Nashville’s Sound Emporium in just three days\, Life Don’t Miss Nobody features the state-of-the-art roots rhythm section of piano masters Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton\, Brian Setzer) and Steve Conn (Bonnie Raitt\, Sonny Landreth)\, upright and electric bassist Byron House (Robert Plant’s Band of Joy\, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)\, Nashville A-list drummer John Gardner (Dixie Chicks\, Taylor Swift)\, Larry Chaney (Edwin McCain) and Mike Henderson (SteelDrivers\, Chris Stapleton) on guitars. \nAbout Steve Conn\nSteve Conn has played piano\, organ\, or accordion with Bonnie Raitt\, Shemekia Copeland\, Kris Kristofferson\, Dion\, Kenny Loggins and a multitude of others. As a session keyboardist he has played on 12 Grammy-nominated albums\, including Tracy Nelson’s Life Don’t Miss Nobody in 2024 and Sonny Landreth’s 2017 live album\, Recorded Live in Lafayette\, on which he plays accordion\, piano and organ\, and is featured singing his song “The One and Only Truth.” \nHe was a New Folk Finalist at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival\, he’s had his music played onOprah and CSI\, and for two years he was the musical director for eTown on National Public Radio. \nHe’s a master songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s toured Europe with legendary bluesman Albert King\, played on “The Tonight Show” with acclaimed vocalist Shelby Lynne\, and joined rock ’n’ roll icon Levon Helm onstage at the famed Ryman Auditorium. \nSteve’s music reflects the depth and diversity of his Louisiana roots. Part funky bluesman\, part soulful popster\, he draws on his love of Southern literature to craft “tunes that infuse intriguing stories and characters with a depth of melody and musicianship that makes clear why Conn is in such demand.” (Dirty Linen) \nHis first national release was the critically acclaimed River of Madness\, a unique hybrid of\nLouisiana-influenced\, pop-inspired deep grooves and high ideals. He released Steve Conn in 2003\, featuring the classic “I’ve Got Your Dog” and the heartbreaking “Beautiful\,” later recorded by soul icon Bonnie Bramlett. \nIn 2011 he came out with Beautiful Dream\, 12 exquisitely crafted songs full of questions and observations about loss and innocence\, hope and regret\, cynicism and optimism. \nHe continues weaving those lyrical threads on 2019’s Flesh and Bone\, which is full of rootsy grooves\, incisive lyrics\, imaginative production and unforgettable songs. \n  \n \n  \nThis event is made possible through the generous support of the Gia Maione Prima Foundation \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Tommy Dorsey Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:  \nBuy Tickets \nMain Stage\nOrchestra $39\, Mezzanine $39\ninclusive of ticket fee \n \nAbout the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra\nIn Big Band history\, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the best all-around dance bands. It could swing with the best of them\, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey\, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing”\, was a master at creating warm\, sentimental\, and always musical moods – at superb dancing and listening tempos. Tommy sustained these moods through the arrangements of the likes of Paul Weston\, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver\, and he showcased singers who could project them brilliantly. \n \nJack Leonard sang with the band for about four years\, recording such fine sides as “Dedicated To You”\, “If It’s The Last Thing I do”\, “Little White Lies”\, “You Taught Me To Love Again”\, “Once In A While”\, and\, probably the most famous of all\, “Marie”. With the band singing vocal riffs as Jack sang the straight lyric\, “Marie” was so successful that he recorded several more standard tunes with the same formula. They include “Who”\, “Yearning”\, and “East Of The Sun”. “Song Of India”\, the other side of “Marie”\, was also a huge Dorsey hit. \nFrank Sinatra’s career blossomed with Dorsey\, and\, with Sinatra’s vocals\, the band became more successful than ever. Frank had often admitted that listening to Tommy helped him develop his phrasing and breathing\, along with his musical taste and knowledge. \nSy Oliver infused the band with a new musical spirit. It was a gentler version of the rocking\, rhythmic sounds that he had created for Jimmy Lunceford\, toned down somewhat and played with more precision by the Dorsey Band. These original tunes included “Easy Does It”\, “Quiet Please”\, “Sing High”\, “Yes\, Indeed”\, “Swingin’ On Nothing”\, “Well\, Git It”\, and “Opus No 1”. Oliver also had a unique way of approaching a straight pop tune\, injecting a soft\, two-beat feeling into. He did this with resounding success in such arrangements as “What Can I Say After I Say I’m Sorry? “\, “For You”\, “Swanee River”\, “Mandy”\, “Make Up Your Mind”\, “Chicago”\, and “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”. \nThe music world lost Tommy at an early age\, but his legacy of great music has transcended time. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra still represents explosive and swinging Big Band entertainment at its very best. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Vance Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \nGia Maione Prima Foundation Studio Theatre\n(Building 12)\nTickets $34 \n \nAbout the show\n“If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child\, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife\, the results might be something close to the great Vance Gilbert”\, says Richmond Magazine. \nVance’s new album\, “The Mother Of Trouble”\, features Grammy winner Lori McKenna on background vocals\, Juno award recipient and Bonnie Raitt Grammy hit song co-writer Joey Landreth on guitars\, and Americana-Roots master mandolinist Joe K. Walsh. With 4 bullies\, 4 deaths (3 of them murders)\, 3 moms\, 2 accidents\, 2 Black people\, 2 dogs\, 1 dog ball\, 1 gay kid\, and 1 missed flight thanks to gas station sushi\, this album benefits from the gifts of time and experience honing songwriting skills that put this most vital of acoustic storytellers at the top of the game. \n \nOh\, and Management wants to make sure to tell you that this is the 14th release for this acoustic stalwart. \n30 years into his career\, the songwriter’s influence can be felt all over the contemporary Folk and Americana realm as he has helped pave the way for many of the BIPOC artists who have followed. \nVance was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. Starting out hoping to be an R&B and jazz singer once at college\, there he discovered his affinity for the storytelling sensibilities of the acoustic singer-songwriter thing. Word spread like wildfire about Gilbert’s stage-owning singing and playing\, and Shawn Colvin invited him to be special guest on her 1992 Fat City tour where he took much of America by storm and by surprise. “With the voice of an angel\, the wit of a devil\, and the guitar playing of a god..” wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. \nNoted not only for being the ever consummate performer\, Gilbert has recorded 13 albums\, including 5 for Philo/Rounder Records. Along with being opener of choice for artists as varied as Arlo Guthrie\, Anita Baker\, The Milk Carton Kids\, and Southside Johnny\, the mid 2000’s found Gilbert opening 150+ shows for comedian George Carlin. \nGilbert has also been a prominent presence at some of the world’s most prestigious gatherings and halls\, among them the Newport\, Winnipeg\, Rocky Mountain\, Calgary\, Ottawa\, and Falcon Ridge Folk festivals\, the Kate Wolf Music Festival\, and Australia’s Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festivals\, Mountain Stage\, Boston’s Symphony Hall\, Nashville’s Lyman Auditorium\, The Barns at Wolftrap\, and a private party for his veterinarian where there was terrific lo-mein. \nMost recently he’s been the opener of choice for Mad About You/Stranger Things star Paul Reiser’s stand-up shows (50 +) for the last 7 years\, along with his own busy acoustic music touring and coaching schedule. That current schedule includes Vance’sMondayNightAcousticPajamaParty on YouTube. Having started the first week of the pandemic in 2020\, Vance has played a live\, themed\, weekly 90 minute mixed bag of originals and cover tunes to a rotating following of about 200 folks. 10 to 20% of his weekly tip jar is donated to a local 501(c)3 of his choice. At the time of this writing\, having done 155 of these shows has become newsworthy in itself. \nGilbert has been a songwriting\, performance\, and voice coach all around the world\, kinda\, from Australia to Winnipeg\, at all the festivals above plus The Kerrville and Rocky Mountain Song Schools\, he is currently on staff as Instructor/Professor at the University Of Colorado Denver and has a decade worth of summer programs at the Berklee College Of Music under his belt. What? Private coaching? Yes\, 6-10 students weekly too. \nConsidered by many to be an integral part of the national folk scene\, his previous record “Good Good Man” features an eclectic roster of musical types including rocker Mike Posner\, world renown Celtic harpist Aine Minough\, bluesman Chris Smither\, and Al Green’s organist Stacey Wade. \nGilbert runs 3 to 4 miles ever so slowly 5 days a week to stay sharp for the road and does historical aviation research and model building just for great nerdy fun. \nHe even has a tune on a Grammy Nominated children’s album. How rounded is that? \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Tracy K. Smith
DESCRIPTION:  \nRegister Now \nVirtual Event on Zoom\nTickets Free; Advance Registration Required \nPlease note: this event was rescheduled after our brochure went to print. The new date is Monday\, April 14\, 2025. \n \nAbout the event\nTracy K. Smith received the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in poetry for her third book of poems\, Life on Mars. The collection draws upon the genre of science fiction in considering who we humans are and what the vast universe holds for us. In poems of political urgency\, tenderness\, elegy and wit\, Smith conjures version upon version of the future\, imagines the afterlife\, and contemplates life here on earth in our institutions\, cities\, houses and hearts. Life on Mars was a New York Times Notable Book\, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice\, and a New Yorker\, Library Journal\, and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. \nSmith’s debut collection\, The Body’s Question\, was selected by Kevin Young as winner of the Cave Canem Prize for the best first book by an African American poet. Straddling languages\, speakers\, and geographies\, the poems bear witness to love\, loss\, and belonging while laying claim to a large and nimble sense of identity. In his introduction\, Young writes\, “Smith…seems perfectly at home speaking of grief and loss\, of lust and hunger\, of joy and desire—which here often means the desire for desire\, and a desire for language itself.” \nDuende\, Smith’s second book\, received the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. The collection takes its title from a term Federico Garcia Lorca brought into broad parlance. The duende is the wild\, unpredictable and oftentimes dangerous energy an artist might seek to conjure up and contend with. Unlike the muse\, which exists beyond or above the artist\, the duende sleeps deep within—as pure urge\, fury\, chaos\, and passion—waiting to be awakened and wrestled\, often at great cost. In Smith’s hands\, this sense of artistic struggle and daring meets up with forms of social and political struggle\, resistance and survival. It also illuminates the private upheaval of divorce and its aftermath. \nIn her memoir\, Ordinary Light\, Smith explores her own experience of race\, religion\, and the death of her mother shortly after Smith graduated from Harvard. The book was a finalist for the National Book Award\, and named a Notable Book by both the New York Times and Washington Post. \nSmith served two terms as Poet Laureate of the United States\, during which time she traveled across America\, hosting poetry readings and conversations in rural communities. She edited the anthology American Journal: Fifty Poems for Our Time during her laureateship\, and launched the American Public Media podcast The Slowdown. In March 2021 she was voted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. \nThis event is presented in collaboration with the Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University and is made possible by the Ocean County College Foundation. \n \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Garrison Keillor Tonight
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nOrchestra $58\, Mezzanine $48 \n \nAbout the show\nGarrison Keillor Tonight is an evening of stand-up\, storytelling\, audience song\, and poetry. One man\, one microphone. There are sung sonnets\, limericks and musical jokes\, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience\, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you\, nothing left to prove\, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. \n“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.” \nThere is the News from Lake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr. Keillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national anthem. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:The Bronx Wanderers
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nOrchestra $52\, Mezzanine $49 \n \nBack by popular demand!\nWhat comes to mind when a father\, his two sons\, and their two high school classmates get together and create a show?  For starters\, you can say a diverse recipe of hilarious personal stories\, a vast repertoire of songs through multiple decades and genres\, and one family’s journey together through life and music.  The Bronx Wanderers pride themselves on being one of the only shows able to entertain grandparents\, their children\, and the grandchildren all in one sweeping musical tour de force.  How do they accomplish this? Well\, the generation gap between the band members (30+ years) forces them to satisfy themselves musically\, which satisfies every audience they’ve encountered.  The chemistry and energy they exert show after show proves they are still having the best time together on stage\, and you can tell they perform each show like it’s their first or last. \n \nThe show’s founder and patriarch\, Yo’ Vinny\, takes you on a musical journey through his illustrious career in the record business while working for Lifesong and Columbia Records since he was 17 years old.  He’s worked with too many artists to mention\, but in the show\, “each song you hear tonight is someone I’ve either had the pleasure to produce\, sing backup for\, or worked with in the record industry during my 30-year career.”  For instance\, you’ll hear songs by Dion and The Belmonts\, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons\, Billy Joel\, The Animals\, Queen\, and even an artist or two from today’s generation.  As they say in the band and in countless reviews\, regardless of how old you are\, coming to the show\, everyone leaves feeling like they’re 20 years old. \nThe Bronx Wanderers have been going strong for over 16 years and have amassed many accolades such as touring the entire country headlining festivals\, PACs\, and casinos\, securing a permanent residency in Las Vegas from 2016 to the present\, filling in for Frankie Valli in Dubai\, being the first and only act to have opened for Tony Orlando and Danny Aiello\, backing Dean Martin’s daughter\, Deana\, for multiple shows\, performing the national anthem for the NY Rangers at Madison Square Garden and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas\, and still managing to have time to volunteer and do charity benefits for the Win-Win Charity Organization\, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital\, and multiple Veteran’s and Armed Forces charities and galas. \nHis two sons are no strangers to their levels of success.  His younger son\, Nick\, had the opportunity to drum and perform for Frankie Valli with the Chicago Jersey Boys cast and was even offered a role in Blue Man Group (but his father and brother just couldn’t let him go.)  The older son\, Vin A.\, the music director and producer for the group\, is an accomplished songwriter and arranger who recently got to open for Bon Jovi at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of 18\,000 people with his original music. \nShare This:
