SUMMARY:The Bronx Wanderers
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nOrchestra $52\, Mezzanine $49 \n \nBack by popular demand!\nWhat comes to mind when a father\, his two sons\, and their two high school classmates get together and create a show?  For starters\, you can say a diverse recipe of hilarious personal stories\, a vast repertoire of songs through multiple decades and genres\, and one family’s journey together through life and music.  The Bronx Wanderers pride themselves on being one of the only shows able to entertain grandparents\, their children\, and the grandchildren all in one sweeping musical tour de force.  How do they accomplish this? Well\, the generation gap between the band members (30+ years) forces them to satisfy themselves musically\, which satisfies every audience they’ve encountered.  The chemistry and energy they exert show after show proves they are still having the best time together on stage\, and you can tell they perform each show like it’s their first or last. \n \nThe show’s founder and patriarch\, Yo’ Vinny\, takes you on a musical journey through his illustrious career in the record business while working for Lifesong and Columbia Records since he was 17 years old.  He’s worked with too many artists to mention\, but in the show\, “each song you hear tonight is someone I’ve either had the pleasure to produce\, sing backup for\, or worked with in the record industry during my 30-year career.”  For instance\, you’ll hear songs by Dion and The Belmonts\, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons\, Billy Joel\, The Animals\, Queen\, and even an artist or two from today’s generation.  As they say in the band and in countless reviews\, regardless of how old you are\, coming to the show\, everyone leaves feeling like they’re 20 years old. \nThe Bronx Wanderers have been going strong for over 16 years and have amassed many accolades such as touring the entire country headlining festivals\, PACs\, and casinos\, securing a permanent residency in Las Vegas from 2016 to the present\, filling in for Frankie Valli in Dubai\, being the first and only act to have opened for Tony Orlando and Danny Aiello\, backing Dean Martin’s daughter\, Deana\, for multiple shows\, performing the national anthem for the NY Rangers at Madison Square Garden and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas\, and still managing to have time to volunteer and do charity benefits for the Win-Win Charity Organization\, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital\, and multiple Veteran’s and Armed Forces charities and galas. \nHis two sons are no strangers to their levels of success.  His younger son\, Nick\, had the opportunity to drum and perform for Frankie Valli with the Chicago Jersey Boys cast and was even offered a role in Blue Man Group (but his father and brother just couldn’t let him go.)  The older son\, Vin A.\, the music director and producer for the group\, is an accomplished songwriter and arranger who recently got to open for Bon Jovi at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of 18\,000 people with his original music. \nShare This:

The town rejoices at Lupita’s arrival\, and that of Raul\, her beloved. Maximiliano\, only son of the town’s richest family\, reminds Lupita’s mother of their secret agreement. Upon learning of the arrangement\, Lupita refuses. Dejected\, Maximiliano challenges Raul to a duel and loses. Maximiliano’s revenge on Raul mistakenly ends up in the hands of Lupita\, ending her life without the chance to say goodbye to her loved one. \nLupita is transported to Mictlán\, the world of the dead\, where she meets La Catrina. Lupita is in awe of the beauty she sees and remembers Raul. La Catrina\, surprised by seeing sadness\, gives Lupita an opportunity to say goodbye to her love. Lupita\, returns to the world of the living. La Catrina shows Raul that one day he will meet his beloved in the world of the departed. With new found hope\, Raul and the townsfolk continue to celebrate the return of their departed loved ones. \n \nUsing both folk and classical music and dance\, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company’s Día de Muertos explores a love story that spans the boundary between the living and the departed. A loving couple falls victim to treachery and is separated\, seemingly forever. The young woman enters Mictlán- the underworld of Aztec mythology- where the mesmerizing Catrina reigns as queen. \nThe original concept for Día de Muertos was a show by Calpulli premiered in 2004 at Queens Theatre in the Park named “Tiempo de Cempazuchitl/Time of the Marigold.” Then Artistic Director Noemy Hernandez created Calpulli’s first story-based production in 2012 premiered at the Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University. The final production of the story was premiered at Queens Theatre in 2016 under the Artistic Direction of Alberto Lopez Herrera\, Dramaturg and co-story writer Roberto Lara\, with Music Direction by George Saenz. Read the letter from the Artistic Director. \nThis work has become a new holiday classic for the Company and is a wonderful way to connect with audiences of all backgrounds. It was recently restaged with support from Dramaturg Gabriela Garcia. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nGet Tickets \n\nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nTickets $39 \n \nAbout the Event\n\nThe first Glenn Miller Orchestra did not make it at all. It was a total and absolute economic failure. But Glenn knew what he wanted\, held to that dedication\, and relentlessly worked to succeed. He launched his second band – the one that lives on today – in March of 1938. The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been a “hit” ever since. \nThe legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930s and ’40s. A matchless string of hit records\, the constant impact of radio broadcasts\, and the drawing power at theatres\, hotels\, and dance pavilion\, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. \nGlenn disbanded his musical organization in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the Army. There\, he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. It went to Europe to entertain servicemen performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15\, 1944\, Major Miller took off in a single-engine plane from Europe to precede his band to France\, disappearing over the English Channel\, never to be seen again. The army declared him officially dead a year later. \n \nWith the release of the major motion movie The Glenn Miller Story featuring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954\, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6\, 1956\, and under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn’s disappearance\, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Other leaders have followed Ray including clarinetists Buddy DeFranco and Peanuts Hucko\, trombonists Buddy Morrow\, Jimmy Henderson\, Larry O’Brien\, and Gary Tole\, and tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart. Since January 2012\, vocalist Nick Hilscher leads the band. \nToday\, the 18 member ensemble continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. Additionally\, it also plays some more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. Just as it was in Glenn’s day\, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought-after big band in the world. \n\nShare This:

SUMMARY:Brass Queens
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \n\nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nTickets $24\n \n \nAbout the Event\nBrass Queens is a female-led\, New York-based brass band that has been dominating the brass band scene since 2019. \n \nFinding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in New York City\, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders. After debuting in March 2019\, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the local music scene and was dubbed “the hardest working band in town” by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in their community through the pandemic. \nA core value of the band is to play for as many audiences as possible to increase the visibility of female musicians in brass bands. Brass Queens tour regularly across the country and internationally. Recent highlights include a New Year’s Eve performance in Telluride\, multiple nights at Favela Chic in New Orleans\, and a sold out show at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit. They also make appearances on festival stages including the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, Northlands Music Festival\, MusikFest\, Duck Jazz Festival\, and multiple appearances at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. Brass Queens has played major events like The Met Gala and David Byrne’s “Amazing Humans Doing Amazing Things!” Variety Show\, and for notable clients including New Balance\, Chanel\, Saks Fifth Avenue\, Tiffany & Co.\, Bombas\, Perrier\, Facebook\, Instagram\, and Pinterest. They have also performed on national television on Good Morning America\, and had multiple shows at iconic New York venues like The Capitol Theater\, Blue Note Jazz Club\, and Brooklyn Bowl. They are also the 2023 winners of We Love NYC’s Rider’s Choice Award\, after the people of New York voted the Queens as their favorite of the MTA’s Music Under New York’s roster of subway performers. \nThe band has developed a signature style that sits right at the intersection of the Big Apple and the Big Easy. Their sound is deeply inspired by and pays homage to the New Orleans brass band tradition while injecting the upbeat\, multifaceted energy of their New York home into each performance. The result is a nonstop party: a Brass Queens show will have you singing along to classic pop hits\, dancing your heart out to reggaeton\, and feeling like you’ve been transported to Frenchman Street. In February 2021\, Brass Queens released their debut EP Royal Street\, which takes listeners on a six-song journey beginning in the heart of New York City with a cover of Cameo’s Candy\, down to Royal St. with their take on a New Orleans traditional\, Little Liza Jane. In November 2023\, the band released their first full-length album titled Black & Gold\, which is an ode to the Brass Queen’s incredible early fanbase who supported the band from the virtual performances and socially-distanced street corners during the COVID-19 pandemic\, to the crowded clubs and packed venues of today. Less than a year later\, Brass Queens released their second full-length album and their first album of all-original music titled Hot Tub Sessions Vol. I. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:Krakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion
DESCRIPTION:  \nGet Tickets \nMain Stage\n(Building 11A)\nTickets $39\n \n \nAbout the Event\nKrakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion is a touring project that was born in the midst of the pandemic lockdowns of 2020. Conceived and created by Grammy-nominated “ebullient clarinet wizard” (Time Out NY) David Krakauer and multi-instrumentalist/producer Kathleen Tagg\, this project showcases a multi-generational/high-octane group of collaborators from very different backgrounds\, hailing from the USA\, Canada\, Iran and South Africa. \n \nTogether they embrace the diversity of today’s America through their unique take on a multitude of traditional roots musics\, bringing their enormous musical and cultural diversity to the project and collaborating to create powerful original material. Old forms are celebrated both by bringing them into a 21st century sound-world and expanding the context to make room for new stories. \nFeatured on shows such as NPR’s Morning Edition and Radio France International (RFI) Sessions Live\, this project was created in response to the current climate of polarization that pervades our daily lives. In these uncertain times\, it’s a chance to come together to celebrate our common humanity and foster joy\, positivity and togetherness. \nTheir album\, Mazel Tov Cocktail Party\, has received rave reviews across North America and Europe: \nFrance’s Le Monde says: “a breath of fresh air\, an incentive to dance…In the face of the overwhelming negativity and alarming rise of hatred and intolerance in today’s world\, let’s breathe and dance together…More than a suggestion\, an injunction” \nRoots World says: “An informal cocktail party typically lasts a few hours\, and this one ends all too soon. 5 stars” \nThey have performed at venues that include Paris’ famed 2000-seater Théâtre du Châtelet and Vienna’s Porgy & Bess Club\, and in venues large and small in France\, Holland\, Austria and the USA. \nKrakauer’s klezmer-influenced clarinet leads the way along with Tagg’s quirky keys\, electronics\, electric cello & production; Martin Shamoonpour’s high-energy contributions on daf\, riq\, darbuka\, jaw harp and flutes; Jerome Harris’ driving bass lines and vocals; rapper and singer Sarah MK’s evocative vocals in Québécois French and English; and Yoshie Fruchter’s wailing oud and electric guitar. In addition\, electronic beats by Jeremy Flower\, Socalled and Selwa Abd (aka Bergsonist) round out the sound for layering with the live performance. The project was initially created in isolation\, individually and remotely in living rooms and basements in New York\, upstate NY and Canada- with band members meeting in person for the first time a year after the project was recorded and the music videos were made. \nTheir influences are global\, but the sound they create collectively has produced something uniquely their own. Familiar dance forms such as Polka or Square Dance never sounded this way before\, with hand drumming\, propulsive electronic beats\, lyrics calling for catharsis and positivity\, deep grooves and Krakauer’s wailing clarinet crying out for us to join together\, celebrate and feel the power in our aliveness. \nDavid Krakauer\, clarinet and vocals\nKathleen Tagg\, producer\, piano\, keyboard\, accordion\, cello and sampler/electronics (Bella’s Calypso)\nSarah MK\, rap vox and vocals\nYoshie Fruchter\, electric guitar and oud\nJerome Harris\, electric bass and vocals\nMartin Shamoonpour\, daf and jaw’s harp\nJohn Hadfield – Drums \nShare This:
