The event will remain General Admission seating.  \nAlexander Timofeev\, Philadelphia-based composer and pianist\, presents Alexander Scriabin’s Third Sonata\, and other piano works by Bach\, Mozart\, Tkach\, and Timofeev. Among the highlights of the program are also Mozart’s lesser-known Fantasy and Fugue in C\, K. 394\, an opus that occupies a unique place in the composer’s catalogue. The recital will culminate with Fantasy on a Theme by Mozart – a dynamic suite of eclectic character pieces merging music\, dance\, and narration\, featuring Rowan faculty dance artists Dr. Leslie Elkins & Paule Turner\, and poems by Janet Fishman (Philadelphia). \nAbout the Artists\nAlexander Timofeev debuted as a composer and pianist at 19\, performing his Piano Concerto (2003) with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova. His accolades include the American Composers Orchestra’s Audience Choice Award and Commission at the 2017 Underwood New Music Readings (New York); he is the finalist of the 2021 Organ Taurida International Composition Competition\, and 2018 International Competition of the Moscow Conservatory for Young Composers ‘New Classics’ (Russia); winner of the 2016 Richard Weerts Composition Competition (USA); finalist of the 2016 Thailand International Composition Festival Competition; and Commissioned Composer for the 2019 NJMTA conference. His compositions have been broadcast on WQXR\, Pro TV (Romania) and Tele-Radio Moldova. \nAs a pianist\, Timofeev won First Prizes at Niš International Piano Competition\, Serbia (2006) and the Margaret Guthman Piano Competition\, Atlanta (2006)\, and received Third Prize at the 2007 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition (Toronto).  The Philadelphia Inquirer lauded Timofeev’s playing as ‘superb’ in the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2 performances with the Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra in 2023. \nAlexander Timofeev completed his DMA studies in piano performance at the University of Maryland\, College Park (2012). He holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music (2008) and a dual B.M. degree in piano performance and composition from Rowan University (2006). His piano teachers included Veda Zuponcic\, Larissa Dedova\, Douglas Humpherys\, Victor Levinzon\, and Aliona Vardanean. Timofeev studied composition with Zlata Tkach\, Harold Oliver\, Lawrence Moss\, and conducting with Mikhail Sechkin. Dr. Timofeev currently serves as 3/4-time adjunct professor and artist-in-residence at Rowan University. \nDr. Leslie Elkins\, Associate Professor in the Rowan University Department of Theatre and Dance\, teaches theory and technique specializing in improvisational composition and performance. Body-Presence: Lived Experience of Choreography and Performance\, her phenomenological-hermeneutic study involving work with noted artist Deborah Hay and two Philadelphia-based dance artists\, is published by Lambert Academic Publishing. She’s a founding member of foursome performance\, a collaborative arts ensemble in Philadelphia. While on sabbatical leave this semester\, she is collaborating with Agustin Muriago\, Rowan alum and Professor of Keyboard Skills at The Peabody Institute. Leslie’s ongoing research continues her over twenty-year fascination with choreographing and adapting improvisational scores in performance and examining the timing of compositional choices. Dr. Elkins received her Ph.D. in Dance from Temple University. \nPaule Turner was a highly visible and active member of the Philadelphia dance community from 1994 – 2006 and was named “Top 25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine in 2000. Hailed as Philly’s most madcap movement artist\, he creates extravagant dance theatre works that are at once entertaining\, meaningful\, compelling\, and brilliantly humorous. Best known for confronting politics full force with dizzying agility and plenty of tour-de-force all out dancing\, Turner received his BFA in dance and choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond\, VA) and his MFA in dance from Temple University (Philadelphia\, PA). He has been the recipient of several grants and fellowships supported by Pennsylvania Council on The Arts and Dance Advance/The Pew Charitable Trusts. He has toured internationally with his performance ensemble c o u r t. With over 25 years of service to the institution\, Paule Turner is a tenured Associate Professor within the Department of Theatre and Dance at Rowan University and served as Chair of the department for six years. His current research\, TOUCH ME includes new choreographic works and autoethnographic writing that aims to reveal the multi-consciousness utilized to create some of the most innovative and boundary-blurring productions. \nJanet Fishman lived in France for ten years.  She studied acting in Paris\, and performed and toured with Théâtre Praxis\, a French troupe.  In the USA she has created\, performed and toured two adaptations: THE OLIVE LAKE A Chinese Fairy Tale\, and THREE SHORT STORIES BY ISAAC BASHEVIS SINGER\, taking the shows all the way to the Edinburgh Festival via performances on the QE2. Her first play\, At Home in the World\, premiered with two readings at The University of the Arts\, in 2004 and in 2007.  Last spring Janet produced and directed her second play\, The Play of Our Theatre Company\, at The Community Education Center in West Philadelphia.  Janet has enjoyed her collaborations with Alexander Timofeev that have allowed her to combine her love of theater\, poetry\, and music.   She recently sang the role of Grandma Tzaytl in a workshop production of Fiddler on the Roof\, in Yiddish!   Janet holds an MA in Theatre from Villanova University.
