Accessibility
Effective Date: April 22, 2026
The Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts is committed to ensuring that all patrons have equal access to the arts. We strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for every visitor, regardless of ability. Our facilities at Ocean County College are designed and maintained to meet or exceed ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards.
1. Physical Access & Seating
- Accessible Seating: Both the Main Stage and Black Box theaters offer dedicated seating for patrons using wheelchairs or mobility devices, along with adjacent companion seating. These seats are available for purchase online, by phone, or at the Box Office.
- Elevators and Ramps: All public levels of the Grunin Center, including the gallery and restrooms, are accessible via elevator or ramps.
- Parking: Designated accessible parking spaces are located in Lot 2, providing the most direct route to the theater entrance.
2. Sensory and Auditory Assistance
- Assistive Listening Systems: We offer assistive listening devices (ALDs) for all performances on the Main Stage. These devices are available free of charge at the Box Office on a first-come, first-served basis. A form of identification (such as a driver’s license) is required as a deposit.
- Sensory-Friendly Performances: Periodically, the Grunin Center hosts sensory-friendly performances designed for patrons with autism or other sensory sensitivities. These shows feature relaxed lighting, reduced sound levels, and a supportive environment for movement.
3. Service Animals
The Grunin Center welcomes service animals as defined by the ADA (dogs or miniature horses specifically trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability). Please notify the Box Office at the time of ticket purchase if you will be accompanied by a service animal so we may ensure adequate space for your comfort.
4. Website Accessibility
We are dedicated to making our digital experience accessible to everyone. Our website is designed to be compatible with screen readers and other assistive technologies. We continuously work to improve the accessibility of our web content in accordance with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 standards.
This website may contain links to third-party websites. The Grunin Center has no control over the accessibility practices or the content of any of our business partners, advertisers, sponsors, or other websites to which we provide links. As such, we are not responsible for the accessibility of those third-party websites.
5. Requesting Accommodations
If you require specific accommodations not listed above (such as American Sign Language interpretation or Audio Description), please contact us at least two weeks prior to the event date. While we will make every effort to fulfill last-minute requests, advanced notice helps us ensure the highest quality of service.
6. Feedback and Contact Information
We welcome your feedback on how we can improve our accessibility services. If you encounter any barriers on our website or at our venue, please let us know.
