Please join the Grunin Performing Arts Academy Junior and Senior vocalists as they present “A Night of Operetta…and Then Some!”
The Vocal Chorale and Ensemble, under the direction Mrs. Kenny, kicks off the festivities with a Holiday prelude consisting of traditional holiday choral pieces, as well some new favorites.
For the first act, the vocalists will be performing selections from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience.” Doom-and-gloom poet Reginald Bunthorne and the rustic, idyllic Archibald Grosvenor are rivals for the hearts of the village maidens. Although Archibald has already stolen the hearts of Bunthorne’s female poetry groupies, he has yet to capture the affections of Patience, the village’s innocent and winsome milkmaid—the very same milkmaid that Bunthorne pines for as well! But Patience is not smitten with passions and poetry, and neither are the hopelessly banal Dragoon guards, who must reluctantly become poets-in-training to win back their ex-fiancées from the clutches of aestheticism. Featuring a particularly witty book by Gilbert, Patience is a brilliant showcase of both Gilbert and Sullivan at the height of their creative powers.
For the second act, vocalists will be performing holiday and musical theater favorites, including songs by artists such as Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, The Pentatonix, Alanis Morrissette, Christina Perri, and the cast of Glee.
