Director’s Notes for June 2026

A note from the Executive & Artistic Director, Heidi M. Sheridan for June 2026.

Hello and welcome to our first In the Spotlight blog post on our new website!  Each month in my Director’s Note, I will highlight an upcoming show or two, discuss a current topic in the arts, or share some news about The Jay & Linda Grunin Center for the Arts as we move through our seasons.

Programming Update for June 2026

We have a mission here at the Jay & Linda Grunin Center for the Arts to “connect communities and celebrate culture by offering vibrant visual and performing arts experiences that entertain, deepen understanding, and inspire joy and creativity.”  This season is no exception, as we welcome a variety of outstanding musical artists, world-renowned speakers, and exceptional educational programming. When I book events for each season, one of my goals includes peppering the season with something for everyone.  I want arts programming at The Jay & Linda Grunin Center for the Arts to reflect our patrons’ desires for world-class talent, outstanding speakers, unique artistic experiences, as well as entertaining tributes to the classics. Each year, I look through all our post-show surveys, and I appreciate all the ideas that everyone shares!

Two people with an 80s theme, one holding a boombox, with "80s KIDS" text for June 2026

This season, I feel excited about all the performers travelling our way, from their family shows to holiday shows, but one act has captured my imagination, too.  In September, the high-energy show called 80s kids (correct spelling per band) will bring you back in a good way.  I saw this show last January, and I have not been able to switch my radio from the New Wave channel since then. The incredible musicianship from vocalists Shannon Curtis and producer, vocalist, and keyboardist, Jamie Hill will knock your 80s bracelets and Vans off, and if you are the parents of or a GenX or older Millennial yourself, I promise you a night of surprise by how many memories these songs evoke. Bring back the 80s, anyone?

Other News for June 2026

In other news for June 2026, we hope you are enjoying our new website!  Over the past year, the team at the Grunin Center has worked diligently with Visionary Graphics to make your ticket buying experience smoother.  Peruse the new site for information on a variety of topics to learn more about us.

I’m sure you are curious about the Grunin Center Expansion construction in front of the theater.  Our facilities department on the beautiful campus of Ocean County College has informed us that the contractors hope for completion sometime in the fall of 2026.  When the builders finish, the space will be much more accessible from the parking lot, will include the Marlene and Michael Perlmutter Hall, the Wintrode Art Gallery, a new box office, and so much more!

Until next time,

Heidi M. Sheridan
